A renewal project for the Sunshine Coast Regional District, the Pender Harbour Aquatic Centre required extensive assessment of existing envelope, interior, mechanical, electrical and structural conditions. The team worked with these findings to leverage the budget to upgrade the building into a durable and enduring centre of the community.
Introducing clear, efficient organization and wayfinding created transformative spatial results. A new exterior courtyard space adjacent to the pool deck allows the swimming experience to be reconnected to the landscape, reaping the benefits of daylight and natural ventilation. This new landscaping, in conjunction with a new entrance canopy, emphasizes a building entrance which had been difficult to find.
